Polaroids

A collection of acrylic paintings on transparent acrylic sheet (Perspex).

I'd been reading online that Polaroid photography was about to go extinct, and people were trying to save it. It's another one of those cool analogue leftovers, like reel to reel tape recorders, or vinyl record players.

People feel attracted to the prints, with their instant quality. They become cherished possessions and keepsakes. Often unselfconscious, with likably distorted colours and tones, they can be very evocative, intimate and personal.

The information they convey makes me think of the random, but sometimes telling results, of a word association game. So when I decided to produce these paintings quickly for a show, I very deliberately drew the first images that came to mind.

Polaroids + snaps = summer
